Creeping Compromises

We all have been that type of christian, where we have compromised on some issues concerning our christian principles. We know all the ten commandments and additional instructions from the bible on how we are to live as Christians but fail to live up to it. It always starts with some small adjustment and then it goes on to something bigger. John 14:15 admonishes us to keep God commandments If we love Him.

Ofcourse we all face temptations as Christians, and sometimes succumb to it sometimes unwillfully. Hebrews 10:26 says ...."For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins." That is to say that when we deliberately expose ourselves to disobeying God, we are not automatically pardoned as sinners. James 4:17 also says..."Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." As such an unbeliever who does not know something to be wrong is not judged as a believer. That is not to say that non-christians are exempt from judgement. Ofcourse we all have a conscience. A person cannot kill another person and conclude that he didn't know it was wrong. That is a non-negotiable sin that any 5 year old should know.

We also all know of compromises that have crept in our churches. For example unmarried people staying together, having kids out of wedlock, unnecessary focus on donations and subtle polygamy among others. Our churches today have had to compromise due to lack of membership and focus on church revenue. I mean someone who contributes so much could be living in sin right under our noses but the church turns a blind eye due to the benefits that person provides the church. It is almost as if a duct tape has been placed on the churches' mouth. Anyone who voices their concerns is shunned by the church because they don't want to lose that person who obviously needs counsel and rebuke. Sometimes we also don't want to upset anyone or get in the bad books of a group of people. Yes the politics of church! 2 Timothy 4:3-4 warns us of this situation.

So what do you do as a christian when you find yourself in such a compromising situation? Matthew 6:24 says ..."No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." This is to say that if we encourage even a little bit of compromise we are have chosen to go against God's words. The emphasis is on the word " chose". We deliberately have decided to "unfollow" God. Joshua 24:15 also admonishes us to choose who to serve. We need to as Christians take a stance in our christian walk. It will not be easy. We may lose that good friend or support. We may also experience alienation from a church or society but the end of the day we can sleep with a good conscience and satisfaction of having served our Master well.

Matthew 6:33 says ..."But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." That thing we need that we compromise our principles for is not worth it. This verse teaches us that God provides for His people who serve Him well.

Dare to be a staunch christian!
