Faith As a Mustard Seed

Of late I have been struggling with my faith for God's promises to be fulfilled in my life. After careful assessment, I realized that my faith needed a reboot to withstand the pressures of life. As Christians, we trust God but we still have our reservation on whether He can indeed make miracles happen. For some Christians the only miracles we have heard of are those in the Bible. We have no experiences or even real life testimonies to cement our faith in Christ. Occasionally we do come across a testimony here and there that renews our faith for at least a month and then we go back to our faithless life where we think everything depends on our ability.

Matthew 7:20 says.... He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." I know this sounds a little ambitious in the real world. I mean without the kind of faith that comes from God, you definitely cannot even imagine anything of the sort let alone make it happen.

The story is told of a Abraham being promised a son even in his old age. Genesis 17:19 .....Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him." From the story in the Bible, we realize that Sarah did not have faith that this could ever happen. I mean by what means? Everything showed that it was impossible for this to happen. We all know that Sarah did what she knew in her human strength to fulfill the promise given her. Sometimes when we feel a promise in our heart, we try to explain to ourselves how this promise will work. We tell ourselves maybe it is metaphorically. We think it may not happen as we think literally but indirectly so we might as well get to work and do what we can to fulfill the promise using crude and unacceptable methods. So Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham to have the son that she thought they were supposed to have. What happened was a whole lot of chaos and dysfunction that is well spelt out in the book of Genesis.

Habbakuk 2:3 says....."For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." Let us have faith that God is able to do what He says He will do and even promises in the Bible that we claim. In the Bible Jesus often proclaimed to those healed that their faith has healed them. Mark 10: 52 .... “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. Mark 5:34 also reads ..... "And He said unto her, “Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole. Go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”

As depicted in the Bible, most of the miracles of healing came about because the people believed and had faith. Matthew 11:24 says.... "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." James 1:6 also admonishes to believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

As Christians , whatever we are believing God to do in our lives we should never lose faith. That is like going to the hospital having doubts on the performance of the Physician. That is a recipe for disaster.
